Debra Shapiro, M.D., Inc, F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Shapiro has been practicing in Burlingame since 1993. She received her BA in Biology from UC Santa Cruz, her M.D. from UCSF and was at University of New Mexico for her Residency. She is certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She divides her time evenly between Obstetrics and Gynecology and is very supportive of Midwifery care for low risk patients. Her Gynecological interest include minimally invasive surgery for a variety of conditions, as well as menopausal management. She works closely with many skilled sub specialists in the area to provide optimum care for her patients. She is on the Board of Directors for the San Mateo County Perinatal Council and sits on the Board of Mills-Peninsula Hospital's Perinatal Quality, Aetna's Western Region Credentialing and MPMG's Credentialing Committees. In her spare time she enjoys collecting art from local artists, being philanthropic and learning from her cats and her spouse of 11 years, Debra Mosk.

Janie Sze, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Sze's clinical interests encompass the full range of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has been in practice in the Bay Area since 1999 and is a member of Mills-Peninsula Hospital's Prenatal and Obstetrics and Gynecology Quality Assurance Committees. She attended Stanford University and Harvard Medical School with internship and residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and is certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She believes that it is important to listen to patients and to keep them fully informed so they can be active participants in their healthcare. Outside of the office, Dr. Sze enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.

Ying Joy Zhou, M.D.

Dr. Joy Zhou (pronounced as "Joe") enjoys the whole range of general Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was trained as a physician in China and repeated her training in the U.S., completing her residency at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is Board Eligible with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a skillful surgeon and uses the latest technology in Gynecology. She is married and has a lovely daughter. They moved here from the East Coast. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, chorus and making friends. She is fluent in Chinese Mandarin.

Melissa C. French, C.N.M., N.P.

Melissa received a Master's degree from UCSF's Midwifery/Nurse Practitioner program in 2002 and has been employed with Women Caring for Women since 2002. She likes to ask questions and to work together with patients to ensure that their holistic fulfilling manner. Melissa came to midwifery from a background in community mental health. Originally from Maryland, Melissa lives with her husband in Burlingame and is a devoted aunt to her nephews and niece. Melissa seeks to connect with her patients and to create a warm inviting environment for all women.

Susie Graven, C.N.M., N.P.

Susie has over 20 years experience in a variety of women and children's healthcare roles. After a decade of working as a Registered Nurse in maternity and pediatrics, she returned to school to pursue advanced training as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Nurse Practitioner. She joined Debra Shapiro in 1997 upon completion of her Master's in Nursing and specialty training at UCSF. She is committed to providing individualized care to every woman, with an emphasis on empowerment of women in health care decision making through patient education regarding healthcare prevention and treatment options. She is also a faculty member at the College of San Mateo where she shares her joy for maternity nursing with student nurses each spring. She is an active member of both the San Mateo County Perinatal Council's Breastfeeding Advisory Committee and the Mills-Peninsula Hospital Breastfeeding Committees. In her off time, she enjoys cooking sewing, nature, travel, music and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and pets.
